Kit yourself out with five-star surrounds

DESPITE the rebound in the hotels sector in Dublin echoes of the crash can be found in The Hotel Sale Part II in Naas on Tuesday at 2pm

The Ashgrove Group will offer more than 1900 lots from a Dublin 2 five-star hotel. Part one of the auction in May was a sellout.

Sales like this prove to be a big draw: During the summer Doneraile based auctioneer Aidan Foley had a sellout auction of contents from Ashford Castle, which is being re-furbished by its new owners.

In Naas there is everything to kit out a bedroom in style. There are signed prints by artists like Bridget Flannery, Gerard Byrne and William Crozier (€60-€80), more than 50 gilt pier mirrors with carved surmounts (€100-€200), single chairs and carvers at €30-€50, armchairs at €80-€100, mahogany writing desks at €60-€100, inlaid side cabinets with black marble tops at €80-€100, rolls of gold coloured carpets, beds, valances, throws.

The Ashgrove Group will hold a sale at Ballybrittas, Co Laois, on September 30 and October 1 of around 2,000 lots from the estate of Shanahoe based farmer and collector James Pratt.

Meanwhile, there will be viewing in Skibbereen from noon to 5pm today, tomorrow and Monday for Morgan O’Driscoll’s Irish and International art at the RDS in Dublin on September 15 at 6pm.
