LICE ADVICE: As the school year begins, pharmacists are warning parents not to expose children to treatments as a precautionary measure to prevent head lice. It is estimated that one-in-10 children suffer from head lice at any one time and 80% of infestations occur in four to 16-year-olds. The Irish Pharmacy Union ( www.ipu.ie ) advises parents to check children’s hair for lice regularly. Wet comb the hair every week with a special nit comb, pictured, but treatments should only be used if live lice are found. Seek advice from your pharmacist on the best treatment for your child. children with asthma or allergies are more vulnerable to a reaction to treatments.
