Fisherman Jay LaPlante caught this one-in-two million blue lobster when he was out fishing with his daughter Meghan off the US coast of Maine.

LaPlante, from the Miss Meghan Lobster Catch company, landed the rare creature on Saturday morning.

The lobster has been named Meghan and will be donated to the Maine State Aquarium by the family.

The family business – Miss Meghan’s Lobster Catch – was pulling up the 150 traps they’d set when they made their discovery.

“We pulled up a trap and we saw it – it really stood out,” Meghan LaPlante told radio station WTOP.

In 2009, lobsterman Bill Marconi caught a blue lobster off the coast of New Hampshire. He initially thought the lobster was a shiny blue beer can.
