Interest builds in gun gallery ahead of Clifden auction

One of the more collectible lots at Dolan’s August auction in Clifden is a century-old album of mounted photographs relating to the manufacture of armaments for the First World War,

At a moment when so much about the Great War is being commemorated this on-trend lot of 47 photographs depicts the manufacture of a 54-tonne trolley for a rail gun at Gateshead Works in England.

Dated September 13, 1914, the photos cover the entire manufacturing process that got under way almost exactly a century ago on September 1, 1914.
