Circus sets Limerick up for a summer of fun

LIMERICK’s tenure as National Capital of Culture means the city has never had more to see and do. A shaky start in January saw the artist director and some programmers jump ship, but Mike Fitzpatrick, head of Limerick School of Art & Design, stepped in to steer events back on course.

Alongside the official 2014 Limerick City of Culture programme, independent events are running all over the city. Limerick artist Brian MacMahon’s solo painting exhibition ‘Real Hallucinations’ is one such event taking place in the renovated Sailor’s Home, a building dating back to 1859 on O’Curry’s Street. MacMahon modestly claims his 110 paintings selected for the exhibition, spanning from 1974 to 2014, are eclipsed by the incredible architectural detail in the Italian-style villa.
