RDS auction focus is strictly sculpture
A MORGAN O’Driscoll auction devoted entirely to sculpture takes place at the RDS on Monday week at 6pm. It is on view in Skibbereen this Bank Holiday weekend from 10am to 5pm today, tomorrow and Monday. Most of this sale of Irish and international works comes from the estate of a deceased collector and will be sold without reserve.
The collection of Irish, English, French and international work is notable for its diversity. There are examples in bronze, stone, metal, wood, ceramic, marble, plaster, copper and lead from sculptors as diverse as John Behan, Clive Barker, Helen Walsh and Alice Maher, The catalogue has 96 lots, collected at sales in Ireland, England and France and some acquired directly from the artist. Among those represented are: Conor Fallon; Patrick O’Reilly; Leo Higgins; Clive Barker; Emile Gilioli; Breon O’Casey; Anna Linnane and Cliodhna Cussen.
After the preview in Skibbereen, the auction goes on view at the RDS for three days from next Saturday.
Meanwhile, a pair of Cork Regency bookcase cabinets with brass trellis doors feature at Lynes and Lynes sale in Carrigtwohill next Saturday at 11am. Rare, and in original condition they are estimated at €4,000-€6,000. Antique pieces on offer include a large 19th century open bookcase, four Georgian mahogany hall chairs, a pair of Japanese Satsuma vases and a selection of dining room and drawing room furniture. The auction will be on view from 10am to 8pm next Thursday and Friday.
