Made with green tea leaves ground to a fine powder, one serving of matcha contains 70 times more antioxidants than orange juice, helps boost metabolism and contains the amino acid L-theanine to keep you calm and focused, while providing a gentle energy boost. Traditionally drunk with hot water in Japanese tea ceremonies, matcha can also be added to fruit juices or smoothies. Because it is a concentrated form of green tea, just one serving a day is recommended. With half the caffeine of a regular coffee, matcha might be an option if you are trying to limit caffeine consumption while pregnant, but do consult your GP if you have any concerns.
