Web Watch: Plants Are The Strangest People

This guy has a tip jar on his blog. A tip jar. But with 1041 houseplants as of March 29, he needs to keep the green coming into his wallet as well as his home.

This is written by a plant lover in Iowa who describes the blog as “long-winded” and “intermittently humorous”. Anthuriums are his favourites, by the way. He goes into propagation, watering, flexibility, feeding... he is very thorough, and takes lots and lots of pictures of his plants. Check out Ficus maclellandii — also known as Mr Right.

When it’s a former leader of a political party — even the Green Party — posting blogs like ‘Attempt by rat to access bee hive’ and ‘Another delivery of horse manure’ one can’t help ponder the hidden meanings. Mr Sargent has been growing his own food for some years and “finds it a great source of pleasure”. It’s a detailed blog, with Youtube clips, advice and week-by-week tasks. I’m going to try growing my own garlic, so inspired am I. And he even has a book out, Trevor’s Kitchen Garden, with royalties going to the charity S.E.E.D.Nice one, Trevor.
