Paul Simon nailed it when he sang that losing love is like a window in your heart — everybody sees you’re blown apart — and that’s particularly true at the graveside where we gather for our final goodbyes.

But while death legitimises grief and the right of the bereft to mourn, there are other forms of loss — such as divorce or separation — where we’re expected to ā€œget on with itā€ because, after all, ā€œnobody diedā€.
