A financial spring clean is easy for Irish families

LAST year, RTÉ Cork asked me if I was interested in working on an eight-minute weekly slot on the Today show, to show people how they could save money on household budgets. There was a moment’s hesitation. I wasn’t a consumer journalist — I was a features writer.
But that was exactly what they wanted. I wasn’t some all-knowing, financial expert. I was a regular mum of three, just like the audience watching. I would take a topic, anything from health insurance to bank charges, research it and find the cheapest deal.
