Fire your imagination at Huntington Castle

Alarge mid-18th century Kilkenny marble Irish fireplace is a highlight at Mealy’s auction at Huntington Castle, Co Carlow next Monday, Nov 18.

Fire your imagination at Huntington Castle

The auction of mostly architectural items features carved Georgian and other stonework, an early stone entrance, Georgian period stone doorways, and Irish and other marble mantle pieces.

This is an executor’s auction of the estate of the late David Durdin-Robertson and includes his private collections. Everything will be sold as is. The Castlemorres fireplace, from the front hall of Castlemorres, Co Kilkenny is a true rarity.

A photo of the fireplace in situ is part of the record of the Irish Georgian Society. Mealy’s are not publishing an estimate on the piece, but €20,000 is probably highly conservative.

Among many other lots of interest is a set of six heavy cut Kilkenny limestone hexagonal bollards removed from Kilkenny Courthouse before renovation.

Among around 500 lots there are salvage items, garden statuary, old slates and copper, attic contents and some period and other furniture. Viewing is at Huntington Castle from 11 am to 4 pm today and tomorrow and the auction is at noon on Monday, Nov 18.

¦ Meanwhile, antique furniture, jewellery; silver and paintings are on offer at RJ Keighery’s sale in Waterford city next Monday, (Nov 18), at 10.30 am.

This is an auction of around 1,100 lots. Prime pieces include an Italian marble top specimen table (€2,000-€3,000), a longcase clock with brass dial by Richard Barrett, Dublin (€3,000-€4,000), an antique gilt overmantle mirror (€600-€800), and a Waterford 10 branch chandelier (€6,000-€8,000).
