Georgian cannon to hit the mark

ONE of the more unusual lots at Cork Auction Rooms tomorrow is an early Georgian cannon.

Georgian cannon to hit the mark

It is eight feet long and, according to the auctioneers, very heavy. The estimate on the piece is €1,500-€2,000. A late Victorian, slate billiard table is another highlight of the sale. The large book section contains signed works of Irish interest and other lots include a 19th century French clock and a pair of Spanish swords forged in Toledo. Viewing is from 10am to 6pm today and 9am tomorrow.

¦ Irish buyers were thin on the ground for Morgan O’Driscoll’s online art sale of Russian and Czech art which ended on Monday. But global online bidders, many of them Russian, gave the Skibbereen auctioneer a successful outing. No less than 52 of the 64 lots on offer were sold to bidders in Russia, the US, the UK, Denmark and even Sri Lanka.
