An exceptional Irish longcase clock and horse drawn carriage are among the lots at Mealy’s auction at Woodview House near Ferns, Co Wexford next Tuesday, (Oct 1), at 11am.

It will feature a collection of antique clocks and militaria.

Highlights include an 18th century longcase clock by John Crosthwaite of Dublin (€7,000-€9,000), a horse drawn carriage by Bates of Gorey (€1,500-€2,500) and a Killarney work table (€2,000-€3,000).

Viewing on the premises is from noon to 5pm tomorrow and from 10am to 5 pm on Monday.

nPortraiture is strongly represented at Whyte’s sale of Important Irish Art at the RDS in Dublin next Monday at 6pm. It features portraits by Sir John Lavery, Sir William Orpen and Walter Osborne. Lavery’s portrait of Lady Parmoor, (Marian Cripps née Ellis), is thought to have been a gift from her husband, the 1st Baron Parmoor, Charles Cripps.

Lady Parmoor was a staunch anti-war campaigner who would later go on to lead the world YWCA and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. It is estimated at €30,000-€50,000.

The catalogue cover features a landscape by Walter Osborne. A corner in the farmyard. This is estimated at €20,000-€30,000. There are about 250 lots on offer. Viewing is from 10am to 6pm today, tomorrow Sunday 29th and Monday 30th.
