Antique furniture with southern elan

Antique Cork furniture on offer at Woodward’s on Sept 25 at 6pm includes a set of six Cork 11-bar dining chairs and a Georgian longcase clock by George Aickin.

The latter piece was made in Cork city around 1780 when a number of clockmakers and cabinet makers flourished in the city. The clock and the chairs are each estimated at €2,000 to €3,000.

Other furniture on offer includes a Louis XIV walnut and satinwood credenza (€500 to €1,000); a long Georgian serving table (€1,500 to €3,500); a Georgian card table (€1,000 to €2,000); a six- foot long hunting table (€1,000 to €2,000); eight Georgian ladder back dining chairs (€2,000 to€3,000); and a Sheraton demi-lune side table (€600 to €1,000).

Meanwhile, The Legacy of the Big House is the title of a three-day sale with 1,443 lots at Sheppard’s in Durrow, Co Laois from Tuesday to Thursday. The sales begin at 10.30am. There is antique furniture, jewellery; Chinese porcelain; art; a Louis XVI revolving dial clock and a Flemish biblical tapestry among a huge selection. Viewing from 10am to 5pm each day.
