The Shape I'm In: Brian Ormond

RTÉ presenter Brian Ormond is busy juggling work and home life.

The Shape I'm In: Brian Ormond

Last October he started a new business venture, Corporate Profiles; six months later, his son Ollie was born.

The business venture, which he runs with colleague Laura Woods, produces high-end corporate videos. “We stumbled across this idea where in America and Canada a lot of companies turn the about us section of their website into a video. We wanted something that is TV quality at a very competitive price. And it’s absolutely flying,” he says.

At home, the multi-tasker — he also sings and acts — has hit the ground running with nappy changing and feeds.

“It was all very new for [my wife] Pippa, but it was a little easier for me because I had Chloe before,” he says, referring to his daughter, 12, from a previous relationship.

“I took a full month off when Ollie was born — I’m lucky that I’m self-employed”.

When asked about his age, the Peter Pan of TV admits to being 34 years old. “I’m getting old now,” he jokes.

What shape are you in?

I’m the kind of guy who looks after his health and what I eat. I play a lot of football. I play a bit of squash. I love my golf — I’ve a handicap of 18 — I always walk the course and carry my bag. I wouldn’t be a fitness freak.

Do you have any health concerns?

I don’t. If I had any concern I’d knock it the head straight away.

How do you relax?

Golf. It is a great way of networking and spending time with your mates and having a laugh. With Pippa, we like to go to the cinema or we enjoy little breaks away like a hotel overnight.

What are your healthiest eating habits?

Pippa enjoys cooking healthy food. I eat a lot of veg — I love my asparagus and parsnips. Don’t get me wrong, we do have our nights out where we have our Chinese or our steaks.

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?

Chips and crisps — I could easily go through three bags on top of a packet of popcorn.

What would keep you awake at night?

Worrying about the future. Pippa would say I’m a big worrier and I over-think everything.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?

Ant and Dec — what you see on television is what you get in real life — Simon Cowell, Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron.

What is your favourite smell?

Pippa’s perfume, Coco Chanel, she was wearing it the first time I met her, at a friend’s birthday party six years ago in Crystal’s night club.

What would you like to change about your appearance?

For years I had an awful time with my teeth. I broke my front tooth when I was 11 — I fell and hit it off my brother’s knee. I could not get my teeth right for a long time. I eventually found a dentist who did an amazing job. I got a full mouth reconstruction.

When did you last cry?

At the funerals of friends. Two close friends would have passed away in the past five years. Happy tears were when Chloe and Ollie were born.

What trait do you least like in others?

I can’t stand people who don’t do what they say. If you’ll say you’ll do it, then do it.

What trait do you least like in yourself?

I find it very hard to say no. I like to please everyone — I’m that kind of guy.

Do you pray?

I believe but I’m wouldn’t be a very religious person.

What would cheer up my day?

You can’t beat coming home from work and seeing the family all there. And picking Chloe up from school when she’s had a good day.
