Gentle touch

Online and in the shops: Cocoonababy nest

Children’s skin is more fragile than adult skin, and more vulnerable to the harmful effects of UV rays. Keep children under three out of the sun. For older children, apply a sun cream, formulated for children, every two hours. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Dermo-Kids 50+ comes in a lotion (€20.50) and a spray (€22.50), which are easy to apply, water- and sweat-resistant and suitable for the most sensitive skin. For advice on sun protection, see www.laroche-posay.ie.

Baby sleep

The Cocoonababy nest, designed by medical professionals for premature babies, promotes a longer and better night’s sleep for newborns. The nest allows your baby to adopt a comfortable, semi-foetal curved position, which reduces startle reflex and symptoms of gastric reflux. You can use the Cocoonababy for the first 4-6 months, or until your baby starts rolling or changing position. Available at www.cleverclogs.ie or at retailers nationwide, the Cocoonababy nest is €169.90.

Breathe easy

During pregnancy, it can be easy to forget about asthma management, as there are so many other health concerns. However, keeping symptoms under control is most important at this time.

Ireland has the fourth highest incidence of asthma and research shows that as many as 90% of people may be using their inhaler incorrectly. Boots and the Asthma Society of Ireland have collaborated to mark World Asthma Day, on May 7, with free ‘let’s breathe easy’ asthma clinics in Boots pharmacies.

The clinics will offer people with asthma an extended consultation with a Boots pharmacist, to review inhaler technique, complete an asthma-control test, and advise on medication usage. Available by appointment between now and May 9.
