Webwatch: Period style and Flos

Two of the hottest sites we've cast our eyes on this week.

Webwatch: Period style and Flos

1Period Styles: Have you got $56 to spare? Well, a “vintage teak Danish modern chair, mid century, Wener, Juhl, Jacobsen, Eames era” is just a click away, my rich friend. We all know ebay.com, but did you know they have a whole ‘Periods & Styles’ category with such wonders as Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts Movement, Mid-Century Modernism, and Victorian. A “watermelon wood cutting board, stainless knife, mid century modern Japan” is $10.99. There are zero bids at the moment on a stuffed armadillo from 1900 made into a basket. It’s a collectible. I didn’t make that up.

2Flos: These guys are serious. They even have a flosophy. Clever, right? It involves ‘shedding brightness on generations of dreams’. For them, light is the substance for expressing new ideas and illuminating unexplored emotions. They’ve been at it for 50 years and there’s some very interesting stuff on here. The Philippe Starck collections are divine and you must check out the Assitalia project they did in Rome, you’ll find it under the ‘projects’ tab, then click on ‘office’. The project architect was Jacopo Della Fontana. With a name like that, could it be anything but cool?
