FAMILY FAVOURITE

Online and in the shops: Sudocrem

This weekend, as we celebrate all things Irish, one baby product which continues to be a firm family favourite is Sudocrem. Developed as an antiseptic healing cream by Dublin pharmacist Thomas Smith in 1931, it can be used to treat nappy rash, cuts and grazes, sunburn, minor burns, acne, bedsores and dry skin. The lavender-scented formula has a water-repellent base which forms a protective barrier on the skin and has gained celebrity fans in recent times, with Cheryl Cole and TOWIE stars using it for spots. A recent addition to the range, the 30g tube, €2.15, has also become a firm fixture in handbags. Visit www.sudocrem.com for further information or like it on Facebook at www.facebook.com/SudocremIreland

CRAWLING AID

Crawling is an important part of your baby’s development, promoting healthy body and brain connections, says teacher and neurological developmental therapist Ollwyn Moran, who developed the Creepers Crawlers suit — essentially a babygro with grips — while studying for her masters in education. It has special non-intrusive bug grips on the legs to provide traction, such as wooden and tiled floors. The suits are made from 100% cotton and are available in cream, pink or blue and in sizes 6-9 mths and 9-12 mths, €14.99 from selected Mothercare stores and www.creeperscrawlers.com

ESSENTIAL OILS

Weleda Nursing Oil, €9.95, is a gentle natural formula created for a nourishing and soothing massage of the breasts prior to nursing. It contains pure essential oils of fennel, caraway and marjoram, traditionally used to support healthy lactation and stimulate milk flow. Weleda says the oil can be applied from the 38th week of pregnancy, several times a day. Available from health stores/pharmacies; www.weleda.co.uk
