The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader

Michael Apted directs the third of the adaptations of CS Lewis’s classic novels. Interestingly, the author — who died in 1963 — never sold the film rights because he believed that cinema couldn’t recreate the fantasy world of the books. Overall, however, the adaptations have been excellent, and there are another four books in the series, so it seems inevitable that there are more to come.
The Jonathan Ross Show

Leigh Francis is on the show as his remarkably successful character Keith Lemon, while Olivia Newton-John, 64, talks about her new tour. X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger also makes an appearance.
Crufts 2013: Best In Show
Channel 4, 5.30pm
BBC abandoned its coverage of Crufts a few years ago because of concerns about bad breeding practices, but if dog-lovers are willing to put such considerations aside, the best in show finale can prove irresistible. Last year’s was won by a lhasa apso, pictured.
Call the Midwife
BBC One, 8pm
Much of tonight’s season finale revolves around the impending birth of Chummy’s baby. Outside the convent, the East End of London is also undergoing change, as many old buildings are being cleared to make way for new flats, a process that will possibly threaten Poplar itself. Not surprisingly, given the show’s huge ratings and sale to over 100 countries, a third eight-episode series has been commissioned for next year.

Another Sunday stalwart reaches the end of its current run. The three lads reach the end of their African odyssey and their hassle-laden quest to reach the definitive source of the Nile.
Toughest Place To Be A... Taxi Driver

Another season of the excellent show that takes Western workers and puts them doing their jobs in the developing world. First up is cabbie Mason McQueen who heads from the comparatively calm streets of London to the chaos of Mumbai. He stays with a local driver and along the way gains insight into the plight of the rural migrant workers who flood India’s cities.

Episode two of the latest series has the new crew competing to get in on a winning idea.

Channel 4, 8pm
With Channel 4 showing Crufts this week, it’s an appropriate time for its investigative current affairs show to look at Europe’s puppy trade. Many puppies are being imported to Britain from Lithuania, Hungary and Slovakia, often under horrendous conditions.

Despite the recent Newtown massacre in the US which claimed the lives of 20 children, Barack Obama faces stiff opposition in his attempts to ban assault weapons. Hilary Andersson meets teachers who want to bring their own guns into the classroom, and shows how easy it is to buy assault weapons in Texas.
Reality Bites — The Gym

While gym memberships have probably been hit by the downturn, there are still legions of people who spend time pounding a treadmill or pumping iron. This documentary meets a number of them at four premises around the country. Among them are James Fennelly from Co Kilkenny, four-time winner of Ireland’s Strongest Man competition; Darragh Hayes, a personal trainer and model; and Richie and Joanna Clifford, fitness instructors at University Arena in Limerick.

Concluding episode of the two-part documentary following families as they prepare for the big Catholic ceremony. Tonight features families from Wicklow and Dublin, as well as a Filipino family now living in Galway.
Planet Ant: Life Inside The Colony

Is there any creature on this planet more interesting than ants? In this documentary, entomologist Dr George McGavin and leafcutter expert Prof Adam Hart use all sorts of techniques to show the life of a million-strong colony. Using a specially designed ant nest with built-in cameras and microphones, they are able to provide unprecedented insight into how it all works.

Tonight’s show is all about architecture. Among the segments are Tom Dyckhoff’s visit to Berlin to see how architects and social media groups have been working together to reduce costs by cutting out the middlemen when designing new neighbourhoods. There’s also a feature from Holland on how to build in flood-risk areas, and a look at cheap building methods.
