The pace of technological change is more apparent at Irish auction houses.

Remote viewing of African art

In Castlecomer, Mealy’s will offer a number of tribal lots, through remote viewing, at their fine and decorative arts sale next Tuesday (Mar 5). On offer is a selection of African art from Igor and Erica Mann, in Kenya, much of whose collection was donated to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Mealy’s will offer around 40 lots, headed by a Luba stool from the Kabongo workshop in the Congo, and estimated at €20,000-€30,000. The lots will be sold based on images, videos and condition reports. Remote viewing enables the lots to remain in whatever part of the globe the collection is located.

The sale of around 800 lots of decorative art, glass, silver, jewellery, furniture, paintings, militaria, light fittings, clocks and musical instruments is at 10.30am on Tuesday. Viewing is from noon to 5pm tomorrow (Mar 3), and from 10am to 5pm on Monday.
