Heart’s still in it

IRISH folk music legend Finbar Furey is at the National Concert Hall on Thurs, Jan 17. “It’s the first Irish tour I’ve done in nearly four years,” says the former front-man of The Fureys.

Heart’s still in it

The 66-year-old, whose name is synonymous with hits such as Sweet 16, The Green Fields Of France and Her Father Didn’t Like Me Anyway, had a heart attack two months ago. “I got no warning. I said, ‘Don’t phone an ambulance — it’s just a bit of indigestion’. But my wife, my oldest daughter, and my youngest said, ‘We’re calling an ambulance’. The crew had to zap me a couple of times on the way to the hospital. I was lucky to get through it.”

The father of five, who has had a solo career for the past 20 years, does not want to smoke again, but he’s not sure he’ll be able to keep this particular New Year resolution.
