ANTIQUE furniture at Woodwards in Cork next Wednesday at 6pm includes a set of six Cork 11-bar dining chairs estimated at €2,000-€3,000 and a secretaire desk with an estimate of €500-1,000.
Georgian furniture includes a commode — chest (€1,500-€2,000), a chest on chest (€1,000-2,000), a longcase clock (€700-€1,000), a tea table (€800-€1,000) a secretaire (€500-€1,000) and a pollard oak desk (€500-700).
Other lots include a Chippendale-style dining table with 10 chairs (€1,000-€2,000), a walnut occasional table (€300-500) and a Scotch chest (€400-€600). There is a selection of Waterford glass and around 80 lots of Irish and English silver. Art includes a welded metal sculpture by the late John Burke and work by William Harrington, Maurice Desmond, Marie Carroll, Graham Knuttel and Fiona Turley.
Viewing is from 2pm to 5pm today and tomorrow and from 10am to 5pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Victorian watercolours of Cork, which were once at the Imperial Hotel, will feature at Morgan O’Driscoll’s art auction at the Clyde Court Hotel at Lansdowne Road, Dublin, on Nov 19 at 6.30pm. The Dublin venue has been prompted by demand from clients. The Skibbereen-based auctioneer will return to Cork for his art sale next February. Among the 195 lots on offer are three watercolours by John Bosanquet, who worked in Cork in the 1860’s. The auction features his views of Blackrock Castle, Corr Castle at Innishannon and the ruin of a tower in Co Cork. They are each estimated at €1,500-€2,500. Viewing at Clyde Court Hotel is from noon to 8pm tomorrow and from 10am to 6pm on Nov 19.
The Lynes and Lynes sale at Carrigtuohill, Co. Cork at 11am today includes a fine satinwood display cabinet by Hicks of Dublin €3,000-5,000), a Smith’s History of Cork, Journals of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society and free-standing display cabinets with low voltage lighting from Wallaces Jewellers, North Main St., Cork.
The specialist art sale at Limerick Auction Rooms tomorrow includes work by Jack B Yeats, Daniel O’Neill, John Shinnors, Grace Henry, Leo Whelan, William Conor, Jean Cocteau, Roger McCarthy, Tom Greaney, Markey Robinson, Patrick Cahill, Micheal Farrell, Martin Finnin, George Campbell, Claude Hayes, Ronald Ossary Dunlop, Alexander Williams and Piet Sluis. A collection of 52 prints by leading Mexican artists commissioned by the Mexican National Print Museum were unveiled at the Irish Museum of Modern Art this week. Works by Fernando Aceves Humana, Roberto Turnbull and Helen Escobedo and a sculptural piece by Leonora Carrington are included.
There is a particularly good selection of diamond jewellery at the sale at O’Reilly’s, Francis St., Dublin, next Wednesday. Among the main lots is a pear-shaped pendant with a 7.11 carat diamond estimated at €70,000-€80,000. An Edwardian diamond bracelet is estimated at €12,000-14,000 and cluster ring 5,000-€6,000.
