Arts Life - Kevin Crawford
Favourite café: The Rowan Tree, Ennis.
Current listening: Shawn Colvin’s All Fall Down album.
The last gig I attended: My own with Lúnasa.
The last book I read: Bluegrass guitar legend Tony Rice’s biography Still Inside.
My last trip to the theatre: We’re very fortunate to have one of the world’s best theatres, Glór, in my home town of Ennis. It’s a great place to catch a show, a gig or simply meet up and have a coffee as I did on my last trip just before heading off to the States.
The last exhibition I attended: Some guy taking his trousers down at a festival in England last month! Well, he made an exhibition of himself, does that count?
My favourite film: The Guard with Brendan Gleeson. (I watched it three times on Christmas Day alone).
My favourite writer/artist/musician: Very difficult to narrow it down to one as it changes from week to week, but I would have to say Matt Molloy and Tony Rice are consistently on my playlist.
My favourite work of art: Anything by JB Vallely.
My favourite venue: Bantry House.
The writer/artist/musician I would most like to meet: Can I really say Tony Rice again without coming across as a freak?
Bio: Born in Birmingham, England to parents from Miltown Malbay, Co Clare, Kevin Crawford moved to Co Clare in 1989. He performed in the groups Grianán, Raise the Rafters and Moving Cloud before joining Lúnasa in January 1997 for a tour of Australia; he has been in the group ever since. Kevin has released two solo records, ‘D’ Flute Album (1994) and In Good Company (2001).
Latest project: One of Kevin’s latest side-projects is the formation of a new super-trio, The Teetotallers, alongside John Doyle and fiddler Martin Hayes. They have toured for much of 2012.
Kevin is just back from touring the US with Lúnasa and will be playing and teaching at The Masters of Tradition in Bantry on Friday and Saturday. Further information: www.westcorkmusic.ie
