A Georgian wardrobe/linen press in original condition is a feature furniture lot at Lynes and Lynes sale in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, next Saturday (July 14) at noon.

The sale offers lots which provide an insight into well-to-do life in late Victorian and early Edwardian Cork through a collection of invoices made out to Major Newenham, Coolmore, Currabinny. From a variety of Cork enterprises, the collection includes a receipt for dinner at the Royal Cork Yacht Club on August 15, 1890 for £10. A Cork Examiner marriage notice on November 25, 1911, cost four shillings. There is a receipt from William Egan and Sons, Patrick St, dated February 1899 for bon bon dishes and other silverware costing £7-15 shillings and from Elvery’s, Elephant House, Patrick St, Cork, from October 3, 1911, for a dozen tennis balls at a cost of 12 shillings and nine pence. There are receipts from Woodford Bourne, Chris O’Mahony automobile engineers, Parnell Place, Robert Day of Patrick St, and other businesses in Cork and Queenstown for items supplied to Coolmore. On the furniture side the linen press is estimated at €1,000-1,500. Other lots include an early 19th century Cork sideboard (€3,000-5,000), a set of Georgian Cork dining chairs (€1,500-2,000), a Regency sofa table (€500-800), a brass club fender (€400-600), a circular dining table (€1,000-1,500) and a Victorian chesterfield couch (€600-800). There are bentwood chairs, side table, a French gilt wood drawing room suite and a pair of Georgian limestone gate pillar finials. Artwork includes a Patrick Hennessy Still Life and a portrait by Harry Kernoff. Viewing is 10am to 7pm next Thursday/Friday and from 10am to the auction this day week.
