Gun fires busy sale

Rarity and collectibility made successful ingredients at the Lynes and Lynes sale at Carrigtwohill last Saturday.

A c1760 cast iron cannon gun of a type not seen at auction every day made €2,100 and a slightly shorter cannon of similar vintage made €1,650. At the same sale an antique pair of limestone gate pillar tops sold for €1,500. Interest in collectible items was strong.

A History of Bandon made €190, Guy’s Cork Almanac for 1918 sold for €125, the Journals of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society for 1894, ’95 and ’96 made €110, €160 and €140 respectively.

A pamphlet entitled ‘Who Burnt Cork City?’ sold for €120 and a History of Kinsale made €100. A set of ten Cork 11-bar dining chairs made €3,000 and the four Georgian hall chairs featured on this page last week sold for €775.
