ALONG with spices such as vanilla, coffee is catnip for humans, a sort of mildly psychoactive cup that cheers.

And it’s no coincidence that there seems to be a major crossover between those who appreciate red wine and those who like hot, strong coffee. It’s those dense, rich, spicy aromas.

When wine fans refer to a ‘coffee’ scent in a wine, we don’t mean a cup of Java has been added, but rather that the wine (always red) has developed naturally-occurring secondary aromas akin to coffee, due in the main to oak ageing. Below are some coffee-inflected inspirations along with one white.
