What’s in my beauty bag?
“I absolutely love Body Shop Mango Body Scrub, €17.95. It smells divine and is a great exfoliator, leaving skin feeling smooth and almost new! It’s a great substitute for a salon-style body polish, especially when prepping skin for false tan. A tub will last a few months, even when used as frequently as once a week.”
“Elnett Diamond Hold Hairspray, €7.36, is the only hairspray! This is the strongest hold available. I have quite thick hair, and lots of it, so this product is great for holding upstyles for gigs and occasions, as well as Beauty-style curls for the show. And it brushes out — win-win!”
“I use La Roche-Posay Nutritic moisturiser, €16, and lip balm, €3.95. These are hypoallergenic and fragrance-free, and as my skin — and especially my lips — tends to dry out easily, I use these to both protect and moisturise. This is also a really reasonably priced range.”
“I have very dark circles under my eyes (an inheritance from my grandmother), so I use Touche Éclat by Yves Saint Laurent, €35, to brighten up the skin tone. It’s pricey, but I only need to get a new tube about once a year.”
“Coralista by Benefit, €33.50, is a really bright, all-purpose blusher that I use across the top of my cheekbones for day and night. Of all of the Benefit powders, this is the one that works best with my skin tone. And it lasts for ages.”
“Neutral shades are the ones I use most, for both day and night, although I occasionally go for a splash of colour. Mac eyeshadows in Malt, Vanilla or Kid, €15 each, blend really well, and don’t fall down on to the top of your cheeks like some others, plus they’ll stay on pretty much all day and all night if you need them to. The only eyeshadows really.”
“I usually wear a heavy black cat eye-type line on my upper lid, and I find that Dior Style Liner in Noir Black, €31, is the best product to create the look. It’s easy to control and you can build up the depth of the line as you go. I actually live in fear of this product being discontinued, because I’ve never found one to top it.”
“I have quite long eyelashes anyway, so what I look for in a mascara is something that gives a nice curl, that won’t run and that coats the lashes without leaving a clumpy finish. Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara, €28, ticks all the boxes — the wand itself is near-perfect! And, as my lashes are black, there’s virtually no point in going for any other colour.”
