Beauty buzz

It’s this season’s must-have polish, the best dupe we’ve seen for Deborah Lippmann’s cult Bad Romance and best of all Revlon has done it at a mere €9. Lovers of sequins and shine need to get their hands on Facets of Fuchsia now.

Model Must-Have

Celebrating 10 years as the face of Rimmel London, the brand has dedicated a whole lipstick line to La Moss. Based around shades she wears and loves, the seven-strong suite of Lasting Finish by Kate lippies, €6.95, boast a satin finish, on-trend shade selection and autographed packaging. Something tells me that these are going to become instant hero products. Standout shades are 01, Kate’s personal pick, and 02 is a shocking pink that’s going to light up your autumn.

Oil be Back

Switch to an oil or balm cleanser and you’ll have a skin epiphany. Chanel’s new Sublimage Essential Comfort Cleanser, €80, is a gel-to-oil concoction that removes all traces of make-up and washes off with the included cotton cloth to leave skin feeling soft, smooth and super-clean.

Open and Shut Case

They’re the undisputed kings of kooky palettes and Book of Shadows IV, €52, the last in this series of kits from Urban Decay, looks like it’s sending the brand out on a high note. 16 shimmer and glitter shadow shades, 24/7 Liquid Liner, mini Supercurl Curling Mascara and Primer Potions are included and here’s the clincher: there’s an iPod dock and speaker in there too. Music and makeup? Sold.

Light of Your Life

New from Benefit is Watt’s Up, €33.50, a soft-focus highlighter you can turn the dimmer switch on, thanks to the included sponge in the base. Slick on the champagne highlighter and then gently blend out across the top of cheekbones, down the nose and below the brows for some subtle shimmer.

Q. SOFTENING UP THOSE LIPS IN STYLE

I’m really enthused about all the new make-up trends I’ve been reading about in runway reports, like the ombre lip. Problem — I don’t know how to take it from catwalk to real life.

Can you help?

“This is a beautiful look,” says make-up artist Leonard Daly, “but it can be softened for us mere mortals.”

He advises lining the lips first in a deep red and then filling them to ÂĽ of the way in.

Now, pick a brighter-toned lipstick. “Start to apply the colour in the centre of your lip and then blend the two colours together by rubbing your lips quite hard.” This merges the shades together for a seamless, lightly graded finish.

This works well for those with smaller pouts.

“If your lips are brighter on the inside they will look fuller,” he reveals. Try Shiseido Smoothing Lip Pencil in Chianti, €20, and Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Colour in Cherry Lush, €45. www.leonarddaly.com
