Reasons to be cheerful

THE credit card bills are coming.

The weather is playing out like an Al Gore PowerPoint presentation. We owe more than our houses are worth, our pay-cheques have been mauled by the December budget, and we’re still eating breakfast in the dark.

On top of it all, January 24 is the most depressing day of the year. Blue Monday has been calculated as the day during which debt, bad weather, failed New Year’s resolutions and a general post-Christmas slump combine to put our spirits at an annual low.
