Children’s books
The short read-aloud tales are well structured with simple text and dialogue and short sentences. The stories feature familiar soft toys, such as a teddy, a cat, an elephant and patterned mice. The sturdy pages each have a colourful tab for easy turning. The excellent illustrations on soft pastel backgrounds are a treat to view over and over again. Perfect.
For toddlers with a ‘blankie’ fixation, One Special Day by M Christina Butler, with baby-friendly illustrations by Tina MacNaughton (Little Tiger Press; €8.80), is a tale of loss and find. When Little Hedgehog is asked to mind his baby cousin there’s consternation when baby’s blankie is whipped away in the wind. All the animals rally round the tearful baby and search through the flowers. The blankie is flocked in bright red with pink dots for visual delight and tactile realism. Another triumph for Tiger Press.
