Archbishop opens Bothar dairy plant in Malawi
Irish farming Aid organisation Bothar opened its first ever-dairy processing plant in the African country. Since 2001 Bothar has sent 323 dairy heifers from Ireland to struggling families in Malawi.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony Archbishop Dermot Clifford told local families that their new dairy plant ‘would enable them to strive for self-sufficiency and that milk will help improve their health, their children’s education and the local economy’. The plant is dedicated to former MEP and Boharlann native TJ Maher who founded Bothar.
