Colm O'Regan: The joy of watching a film Saorview-style

Seems an odd question but…jdever just sit down and watch a filum?
Apparently Netflix are bringing out TV channels. It could take off... As long as there’s a plus one.

The Fugitive was on RTÉ a few days ago. I watched it Saorview style.

Saorview-style means rejecting the ‘streamers’ and typing a channel into the remote control. As usual my fingers were out of practice and I typed 234 so I journeyed back through the radio, the mysterious religious channel, the Saorview guide, an old debate from the European parliament or the Seanad. Between Challenge and the Virgins, I saw The Chase,
an old The Chase, Beat the Chasers, Real Housewives of Somewhere Slightly Cheaper, into TG4 and it’s Daniel O’Donnell’s Own Personal Orpry and a spontaneous outpouring of jiving on the dancefloor as he launched into a ferocious death metal version of ‘From a Jack To A King’. Then I found it. A Good Film on RTÉ. It was half-way through but it’s so dense and fast, I got sucked in and
decided to go back to RTÉ +1 to watch it from the start. Then I caught up with the past version of myself watching it on RTÉ+1 … minus 1. Since I’d watched about 10 minutes in the future past, it was a good time to get a few jobs done – toasted sandwich, put on a wash – while the past caught up with the present.
