For several years in the late 1990s and 2000s, we held a ‘first paycheck of the new year’ party in our house, and they were some of the best parties we ever held (or attended).

The relief that January was over added 40% to the gaiety. I think we stopped because life got busier and we got older, but I confess I miss them.
