nThe first comprehensive Organic and Green Guide to Ireland has been produced by The Organic Centre, Rossinver, Co Leitrim, with support from the Organic Unit of the Department of Agriculture. The Guide is the most inclusive reference source for people wishing to source quality, organic food in their area. Every organic producer and processor in Ireland’s 32 counties was invited to be included in the guide with information about what they produce and contact details. The Guide contains details of Irish Farmers’ Markets along with information about Fair Trade produce. It is enlivened by a selection of short pieces written by food producers which give an insight into what they do and why.
Restaurants and accommodation that specialise in using local and organic produce have also been included. Price €12. It is available directly from The Organic Centre, Tel: 071 98 54 338, (free P&P Ireland and UK) and from bookshops and health food shops.

Community Gardens and Urban Vegetable Plots: In the US there are plans to set aside tracts of land inside city limits for organic farming and to emphasise locally grown food for local consumption. San Diego Urban Farms are a non-profit group and they want to increase the amount of food produced locally to save energy, create jobs and produce healthier and better tasting food.
