Ireland’s BVD eradication programme is now in the “home straight”, with the number of herds with infected animals falling to about 100 nationally, Animal Health Ireland has said.

Speaking before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture this week, AHI chief executive Patrick Donohoe said the programme remained the organisation’s “number one priority”, with a 44% reduction in PI calves recorded this year, building on over a decade of significant progress.
