EU-Mercosur FTA keeps a narrow window for meat as the agreement establishes limited quotas and multiple safeguards, writes Brazilian agricultural journalist Daniel Azevedo Duarte.

After almost 26 years of negotiations, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Mercosur and the European Union (EU) has cleared another decisive hurdle. It now depends solely on final approval by the respective parliaments.

The progress in negotiations has brought optimism on the Mercosur countries’ side, paving the way for what would become the world’s largest trade pact.
