Alltech ruminant manager appointed president of UK animal science society
Newly appointed BSAS president Dr Helen Warren with her predecessor, former president Professor David Kenny, at this year's conference held at the Galway Bay Hotel
Dr Helen Warren has been announced as the newly appointed president of the British Society of Animal Science (BSAS) at this year's annual conference in Galway.
Dr Warren is also the European ruminant technical manager at Alltech, alongside her newly appointed presidency. Having worked extensively across Europe, Dr Warren brings plenty of experience in animal nutrition and industry-academic collaboration to the role.
Dr Warren graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, with a bachelor's degree in animal science, followed by a PhD in fatty acids in beef from the University of Bristol. She lectured students completing animal and equine degrees for five years before moving into the feed industry, where she remains to this day.
Accepting her new role as president, Dr Warren said: "It’s an honour to take on this role at such a critical time for animal science. I look forward to working with the board, our members, and partners to champion research, support the next generation of scientists, and help ensure that our work continues to make a positive impact on animal health, welfare, and sustainability."
Dr Warren succeeds Professor David Kenny, whose tenure has been marked by a strong focus on growth and increased collaboration. Commenting on the appointment, the outgoing president said: "It has been a privilege to serve as president of BSAS and I am thrilled to hand over the role to Helen.Â
"Her extensive industry experience, deep scientific understanding, and passion for animal science will be a tremendous asset to the society as it continues to grow and evolve."
