Since 2015, we have seen a year-on-year increase in costs. This obviously rapidly increased in 2022, and has stayed high for 2023 and 2024.

Close inspection of the accounts of 700 dairy farmers by Teagasc experts has revealed a range in profitability of €1,140 per cow and in costs of €570 per cow.

Milk solids and grass explained much of the differences, said Teagasc Dairy Specialist Patrick Gowing, after his recent review of more than 700 eProfit Monitors.
