Be SunSmart when working outdoors

Almost two-thirds (63%) of outdoor workers surveyed said they suffer sunburn instances during a typical working year.

New research has found almost two-thirds (63%) of outdoor workers surveyed said they suffer sunburn instances during a typical working year, with farmers significantly more likely than construction workers to report being sunburnt.

The HSE National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) and Healthy Ireland advise if you work outdoors, you are exposed to two to three times more UV radiation from the sun than people who work indoors. This puts outdoor workers at high risk of developing skin cancer, the most common form of cancer in Ireland, with over 11,000 cases annually.
