Closer collaboration between dairy and beef farmers across Ireland and the adoption of key technologies are needed to ensure profitable and sustainable production of beef calves from the dairy herd, according to Teagasc.

Crowds of farmers were welcomed to the first open day recently at the 112-hectare dairy calf-to-beef demonstration farm based in Fethard, Co Tipperary - a joint venture between Teagasc, Dawn Meats and Shinagh Estates Ltd.
