Across member states, recovery rates varied between 17% and 92%, while the rate of waivers varied between 0% (in Austria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, and Romania) and 48%.

Ireland is one of the best member states for recovering the money after EU agricultural payments were found to be incorrectly made.

In Ireland, incorrect payments from the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF) totalled €43.7m from 2007 to 2022. However, 88% of the misspent money was recovered, and only 2% was “written off”.
