Farm Focus With FBD: Five things you need to know about the Tullamore Show
Ireland's leading livestock show
The numbers behind the Tullamore Show & FBD National Livestock Show underline its position as Ireland's premier show and country lifestyle event. It's attracted an average attendance of 60,000 in recent years to experience its array of 700 trade stands and more than 1,000 competitions, with a total prize fund of €175,000.
Wide-ranging competitions
The big prizes go to reward the best in Irish livestock, with competitions for dairy cattle, pedigree cattle and commercial cattle, as well as sheep, pigs, alpacas and sheepdog trials. There's also a diverse selection of competitions within the bloodstock and equestrian section, including horse showing, ridden hunters, working hunter and miniature horses/ponies.

A thriving tradition
The number of entries has increased in the years since the show was revived in 1991, after over 50 years without a show in Tullamore. It was hosted in the Charleville Castle grounds for many years, through misfortunate cancellations in 2001 (during the foot and mouth outbreak), 2007 and 2008 (due to last-minute torrential rainfalls). Since the move to the 250-acre Butterfield Estate, just 5km away from the town centre, the show has regularly broken its own record for crowd numbers.

Something for everyone
There's a little bit of everything for Tullamore Show attendees. As well as all the trade stands, there's a mix of cookery, fashion, arts, crafts and photography competitions too.
