Backweston lab upgrade will boost diagnostic reputation

A €6m high-containment laboratory will enhance Ireland’s capability for diagnosis of exotic viral diseases of farmed animals.

The laboratory is being completed at the Department of Agriculture’s laboratory complex at Backweston, Co Kildare.

The infrastructure there supports diagnostic, regulatory and research and development functions.
