JFC tip-over drinker takes prize
Visitors to their stand can enter a daily competition to win a DBL9 Tip-Over Drinker, just a week after it won in the Innov’Space awards at the Space agricultural show in Rennes, France.
Innov’Space judges, and the attendance of over 108,000 at the four-day show in northwestern France’s Brittany intensive farming area, were impressed by the so-called “dumpy bowl”, a 3.5 litre rotating drink bowl that allows the farmer empty the bowl by pressing a button, so that cows or cattle can have access to fresh, clean drinking water.
The bowl operates by gravity, using the weight of water to swing 180 degrees, dumping the entire contents of the drinker onto the ground or the slats. It swings back to a working position all within the same movement, and refills.
The DBL9 Dumpy Tip-Over Drinker also collected two awards for Innovation in July --- a Certificate of Commendation for Technical Innovation at the Royal Highland Show, and a ‘White Rose What’s Next’ runner-up award at the Great Yorkshire Show.
At Innov’Space 2016, the prize-winners are classified 1-star or 2-star.
The JFC DBL9 Tip-Over Drinker was one of 11 2-star winners, 50 and JFC was one of the few non-French companies among the 50 1-star or 2-star winners.
A jury of experts (Chambers of Agriculture, Technical Institutes, the French National Institute for Agricultural Research, the National Research Institute of Science and Technology for Environment, and French Institute for patents rights), veterinarians, farmers and journalists judged the innovative characteristics of the products, equipments or services entered for the awards.
The Tip-Over Drinker’s advanatages were recognised nearly a year ago at the National Dairy Show in Millstreet, Co Cork, where it was launched, and duly won the Silver Award in the Show’s innovation awards.
National Dairy Show Innovation Award judge Seamus O’Mahony said it was an “excellent innovation of current drinking bowl designs”.
He said: “The robust and practical tip and snap back mechanism is a great innovation, but we saw the fitting of the ball cock independent to the water pipe, which can otherwise cause the ballcock to move and result in leaking troughs, as a second innovation that can be incorporated into other troughs.”
