The Sustainable Forest Management Ireland (SFMI) event will feature talks by experts in forest management certification, certification schemes, certifying bodies, Forest Service and private growers.

Forest certification has been identified as a potential barrier to mobilisation and sale of timber from the private growers in Ireland. Examples of best practice and group certification will also be discussed on the day.

SFMI is a non-profit voluntary organisation, whose members include Teagasc, IFA, Coillte, UCD, Eco-tourism Ireland, Society of Irish Foresters as well as individual members working in forestry. See Teagasc.ie for further details.

Meanwhile, ‘Profitable Technologies’ is the theme for Teagasc’s Beef 2016 open day at the Animal & Grassland, Research and Innovation Centre in Grange, Co Meath, on July 5.

Technical stands will cover suckler beef, exploiting Genetics, dairy calf to Beef, high performance from pastures, and profitable breeding and herd health’.
