Macra news: Members to make the trip to Tipp for AGM

Hosted by North Tipperary Macra, the theme is ‘Keep it Country, Keep it Safe”, and the event will take place in The Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh.

Sponsored by Arrabawn and ABP, hundreds of young people will attend.

Preparations for the AGM began last year, when an AGM subcommittee was created.

The launch was held in the Abbey Court earlier this year, with Macra national president Seán Finan in attendance, alongside Conor Ryan of Arrabawn Co-op, and ABP’s Don O’ Brien, as well as local representatives.

Members of all five local clubs were present, along with delegates from the North Tipperary Committee.

As part of the official proceedings tomorrow night, 12 new national council representatives will take up their roles.

The AGM will kick off with a review of Macra Na Feirme over the past year.

Issues arising will then be discussed and motions brought before delegates will be debated.

At the end of the formal proceedings, the final of the Macra Impromptu Debating competition will take place.

The competition incorporates the skills of debating with spontaneity and general knowledge.

Heats have been taking place all over the country, with this year’s final kicking off at the hotel at 7pm between East Laois Macra, Co Laois, and Carrigaline Macra of Cork’s Seandún region.

There will also be a gala celebratory meal at 7.30pm followed by some party games and entertainment from Outta Diesel and a DJ, well into the early hours.

The national AGM is one of the highlights of the Macra na Feirme calendar, with hundreds of members from all over the country gathering together.

This year is a big year for Nenagh Macra, as the club is 70 years in existence.
