The European Commission’s rural development section is supportive of an IFA proposal to offer targeted payments to sheep farmers.

EU open to IFA proposal to offer targeted sheep sector payments

At a meeting with senior Agri officials in Brussels, IFA sheep chairman John Lynskey said current CAP regulations allow a specific targeted payment for sheep, provided there was a willingness among member states to develop such a measure.

Mr Lynskey said the Commission was open to supporting the sheep sector from either Pillar I or Pillar II of CAP.
