John Dalton named president of seed trade association

John Dalton has been named president of the Irish Seed Trade Association, to serve a two-year term.

Managing director of John Dalton & Sons Ltd, Chancellors Mills, Kilkenny, for the past 25 years, he was selected at ISTA’s recent AGM. He takes over from Tom Bryan of Boortmalt in Athy, Co Kildare.

Mr Dalton is also a former president of Irish Grain and Feed Association, of which he remains a committee member. He is also a board member of Cereal Association of Ireland.

ISTA represents multipliers, producers and distributors of certified seeds. Mr Dalton will promote the role of ISTA for the gain of tillage farmers and growers throughout the country.

He said: “In representing the commercial organisations in the seed industry, we are ensuring that the best varieties and standards are adhered to for the good of Irish tillage farmers.

“We promote the use of only certified seed varieties, to ensure Irish growers are using the best possible varieties for commercial gain while maintaining the integrity of our industry.”

Tom Bryan will serve as outgoing vice-president, along with incoming ISTA vice-president Jim Gibbons of Germinal Seeds, Horse and Jockey, Co Tipperary.
