2015’s biggest weekly price cut for lambs
The quoted prices for lambs have been cut 50 cents/kg at most factories, leaving the general run of prices on offer at 600 cents/kg, plus the usual bonus payments for quality, varying between 6 and 10 cents/kg, which includes quality assurance.
An easing in the trade in Britain and France after Easter has been blamed for the sudden downturn.
In the marts, the trade was also quieter on Monday.
The numbers on offer have increased over previous weeks, and prices are back 10-15/head compared to two weeks ago, in general.
Spring lambs at Corrin Mart on Monday ranged from 60 over to 88 over, and hoggets sold for up to 76 over, while the bulk sales were in the 50 over to 64 over range.
There were 540 head on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, where up to 84 over was paid for new season lambs, and hoggets ranged up to 70 over.
The trade in Britain slowed down last week, lamba were making the equivalent of around 600 cents/kg towards the weekend.
In France, the trade was reported sluggish last week due to easing demand.Promotions during the week were mainly centred on forequarter lamb. Grade 1 Irish lamb was making 625 cents/kg (incl VAT) towards the weekend.
