Co-ops’ huge superlevy savings on April 1

Lakeland Dairies estimates that its milk suppliers dodged more than €1 million in superlevy fines, due to the hard work of milk carters and processing staff who handled about four million litres of milk on April 1, which was mostly carried over from the last days of March.

Farmers who stored and cooled the milk also played a part in ensuring the milk was of the highest quality when it was poured into the processing silos, said a co-op spokesman.

Nationally, the April 1 rush to hold over and process milk which was produced on farms in March may have saved farmers up to €10m.
